Cambodia’s bilateral trade with the United Arab Emirates (UAE) is poised to grow further after the Cambodia Private Commercial Center was officially launched in Dubai.
The inauguration ceremony of the Cambodia Private Commercial Center was held on February 26 in Dubai in the presence of Tekreth Kamrang, Secretary of State of Commerce with the participation of leaders and officials of the Ministry of Commerce of Cambodia, officials and authorities of the United Arab Emirates and representatives of Oneroad Group.
“The Cambodia Private Commercial Center in Abu Dhabi is established to promote and export Cambodian products to international markets, as well as to disseminate documents related to Cambodia’s trade, economy, investment, culture, and tourism to traders, investors, and international tourists, especially from the UAE,” read a ministry’s statement.
President of Cambodia Pepper and Spices Federation Mak Ny applauded the move, placing high hopes of promoting agricultural products in the market of the United Arab Emirates.
“With the presence of the commercial centre, we hope that Cambodia’s products including agricultural products will be promoted and showcased to customers there,” Ny told Khmer Times.
So far, the federation has worked closely with the Commerce Ministry in promoting pepper and spices in foreign markets, particularly in the Middle East and North Africa, Ny said. “The presence of the centre is in line with what the federation and the Ministry of Commerce have jointly promoted our products, giving us high hopes to get new markets in the Middle East soon,” Ny said.
Oneroad Group, a local rice export firm, officially exported the first batch of contracted 60,000 tons of milled rice to the United Arab Emirates earlier this year.
The export came after Cambodia and the UAE signed the
Cambodia-UAE Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CAM-UEA CEPA) in
June 2023.
Cambodia and UEA are strengthening and expanding bilateral trade
with the United Arab Emirates through the CAM-UEA CEPA.
According to the commerce ministry, trade between Cambodia and
the UAE reached $151 million in 2021, marking a 53 per cent increase from 2020.
Key items in bilateral trade include clothing, footwear, bicycles, travel goods, tobacco, milled rice, electrical appliances, vehicle components, asphalt, tuber sugars, animal feed, plastics, vehicles and paper.
